FAQ

Everything You Might Ask

Straight answers about how the finder works, what it does with your data, and what it deliberately does not do.

Getting Started

How do I use this Qibla finder?

Press “Start Qibla Finder”, allow location and motion access, then pick a display mode. In Compass or Arrow mode, turn slowly until the reading drops to zero and the badge says you are aligned. In Map mode, follow the dashed line toward the Kaaba.

Is Qibla Finder free to use?

Yes — every feature is free with no ads, no account and no paid tier.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no login and no cookie banner because there are no cookies. Settings live in your browser’s local storage.

Can I use it on a laptop?

Yes. Laptops rarely have a compass sensor, so use Map mode for the same bearing, route and distance as on a phone.

Accuracy

How accurate is the Qibla direction?

The calculated bearing is accurate to a tenth of a degree. What limits you is the phone’s magnetometer — well-calibrated phones land within 1–3°, which is roughly an arm’s width at 10 metres.

My compass is off by a few degrees. Why?

Magnetic declination: your sensor reads magnetic north while the Qibla is quoted from true north. Differences of a few degrees are normal. If it is tens of degrees off, you need calibration — see Troubleshooting.

How do I calibrate my phone compass?

Hold the phone flat and move it in a figure-8 three or four times, then rotate it through 360° on each axis. The tool shows an animated guide and live accuracy so you can watch it improve.

Do magnets, cases or pop-sockets affect it?

Yes — magnetically mounted cases, ring holders, car mounts and speakers are the most common cause of bad readings. Take them off or move away from them before trusting a bearing.

What coordinates is the Kaaba at?

21.4225° N, 39.8262° E — the values hard-coded into this site’s calculations and shown on the How It Works page.

Privacy & Offline

Do you track my location?

No. Your browser reads location and sensors and hands them straight to the page. Nothing is transmitted to us or any third party — there is no analytics code on this site at all.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After the first visit the app installs as a Progressive Web App. Compass, arrow and readings all work in airplane mode. Map tiles need a connection.

What data do you store?

Only your display settings (theme, units, feedback preferences) in local storage on your own device. Clearing site data removes them completely.

Are there ads or trackers?

None. No ad networks, no analytics, no pixels, no affiliate links. The site costs nothing to use because it costs almost nothing to run.

Features & Scope

Why are there no prayer times?

Prayer times need timezone, calculation method and madhhab choices that vary by region — a whole different product. Keeping this tool focused on the Qibla keeps it fast, offline-friendly and accurate. Pair it with your mosque’s timetable.

What if location permission is blocked?

Tap the location icon in your browser’s address bar, choose “Allow”, then tap Find Qibla Direction again. The reading appears as soon as your position is received.

Can I switch between kilometres and miles?

Yes, and you can also switch bearings between degrees, compass points (like ESE) and NATO mils — all in Settings, and your choices are remembered.

Can I install it on my home screen?

Yes. On Android and iOS, use your browser’s “Add to Home Screen” option. It launches standalone, without browser chrome, and starts offline.

Is this the same as qiblafinder.io?

It is an independent site with an original interface. This tool adds a live map with the great-circle route, proximity audio, bearing formats and a strict no-tracking policy.
